Upper Room Books® is an ecumenical nonprofit religious publisher and is associated with The Upper Room® Daily Devotional Guide. Our publishing consists of books that help readers discover, develop, and enrich a life of devotion and attention to God. Books published by The Upper Room present to individuals and to groups the possibility and promise of an intimate, life-giving relationship with God. These books further assist readers along their spiritual path by offering guidance toward a disciplined life that includes prayer and action. The Upper Room publishes between twenty-five and thirty books each year.
Who Reads Upper Room Books
Our audience encompasses people of all ages and with a wide variety of interests and religious backgrounds. Upper Room Books publishes books and resources to meet this variety. For lay audiences of all ages, we publish great devotional and inspirational books. For clergy and laypersons interested in their own spiritual formation and growth, we publish studies of biblical and theological interpretation to aid in the devotional experience. To help families in their spiritual lives, we publish resources appropriate for children, youth, parents, and married partners.
Upper Room Books often crosses these audience lines with books and materials appropriate for different seasons of the Christian year and special occasions such as graduations and weddings. In the interest of serving all segments of our audience, The Upper Room provides support for persons experiencing special needs, including physical, spiritual, and emotional needs. Upper Room Books, however, publishes very few collections of meditations or sermons and does not publish fiction.
Sending Material to Upper Room Books
After you have determined that your material shares the objectives of Upper Room Books, you will want to submit no less than an outline or introductory statement and one sample chapter to our editor. All material that we receive is acknowledged and reviewed by an editor. The review process takes time, normally six to eight weeks, and thus we cannot always guarantee a quick response. At the end of the review, the author is notified of the editor's decision. All of the editor's reports remain confidential.
Please send all submissions to:
